Bad Day - Fuel

Lyrics | Fuel lyrics - Bad Day lyrics

I'd never get tired of listening to this song from one of my favorite alternative bands, Fuel. Like most of the songs I really like, this actually conveys what I feel or experience most of the time. It's funny, but I still remember crying with this song in the background at the end of a really dismal day. I guess it's Brett Scallions' powerful and gripping vocals and Carl Bell's honest, heartfelt, and matter-of-fact lyrics. I really love Fuel. Too bad, Brett left the group in 2006. It's just not the same without him.

Somewhere Out There - Our Lady Peace

Lyrics | Our Lady Peace lyrics - Somewhere Out There lyrics

Oh and have I told you that I love OLP?
I especially love (and I mean, LOVE) this song. The melody, the video, the message, the melancholy... it's got everything and it's one of my favorites from this Canadian band.
The lyrics are quite symbolic and subject to arbitrary interpretation but there's the thought of losing someone (but knowing that that person's just out there) and the willingness to wait.

A Story About A Girl - Our Lady Peace

Lyrics | Our Lady Peace lyrics - A Story About A Girl lyrics

Sorry 'bout the video. YouTube does not have an official video for the song, unfortunately.
I can totally relate to this and needless to say, it's a song about how cruel the world is sometimes and how tough it is out there. If I were to use a song as a soundtrack to convey my struggles and how I feel about life in general, this has got to be one of my top picks.

Overkill - Colin Hay

Lyrics | Colin Hay lyrics - Overkill lyrics

This is a song from the tv series Scrubs. Lately I feel like I'm worrying too much and it's keeping me up during the day (when I'm supposed to be sleeping). Of late, my decisions have all been quite wrong or inappropriate and, consequently, I can't help but think things over five or six times before I even do something - which depresses me even more to say the least because I can't seem to move on.
I guess I just think too much... I let my fears take over my life.

Minority - Green Day

Song lyrics | Minority lyrics

When I'm feeling rebellious, this is one of the songs I sing in my head. It also represents my outlook on life at the moment. I feel alone in a crowd, stagnant against a parade of drones, and I refuse to be herded along with the other sheep.

Futures - Jimmy Eat World

Lyrics | Jimmy Eat World - Futures lyrics

JEW's songs have always been very influential to me. I can tell if a song is a JEW song because of the blending vocals of Jim Adkins and Tom Linton.

According to wikipedia.org:
"When Jim sings "I hope for better in November" he is referring to the 2004 presidential election. The ability to change things in the future is the major theme of the song."
I personally enjoy the optimistic cadence/rhythm and the catchy tune and the lines:
"Hey now, what is it you think you see?
My darling, now's the time to disgaree"
and
"Hey now, the past is told by those who win...
My darling, believe your voice can mean something."

You're a God - Vertical Horizon

Lyrics | Vertical Horizon - You're A God lyrics

I remember listening to this song back in high school and dedicating it to the "god of my idolatry" then. It's a bittersweet symphony regarding the one person you could never have because it just can't be...

Selling the Drama - Live

Lyrics | Live - Selling The Drama lyrics

Live's always had very provocative songs and this is just one of them. One of my favorites. Never boring. I guess the best line (or at least, the line I can relate to most) is:

"and to love a god, and to fear a flame, and to burn a love that has a name..."

3 Libras - A Perfect Circle

Lyrics | A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras lyrics

I was influenced to listen to this band by a co-worker who was also an avid fan of rock music. James Maynard Keenan's lyrics are quite poetic. Overall, the song sticks to you because of the emotional conviction, the universal theme of "unrequited love" (or whatever you think the theme is) and the well-orchestrated rock ballad melody which you don't hear everyday.
